1. Create your personalized Jurus (15-20 seconds) based on everything we've covered so far. A jurus should have at least 4 postures linked together. 


2. Practice by repeating the jurus until you are able to,without thinking, do it at least five times in a row continuously, on either left or right side (or both sides!).


3. Record and share a snippet of your jurus with the group.

USA SBL conference in Houston happened the last weekend of April. It was a BLAST! 

Learnt tremendous amount of teaching methods, practiced and cleaned up my own techniques, and did some mental practice as well. At the beginning of the workshop, I also received my instructor certification. It was great experience teaching some there, and also being the demo person who took a decent amount of of hits, pins and foldings. 


May line up is as follows:

May 11 - Harimau + Buaya and bring on the turtle 

May 18 - Kembangan session (soft side / Yin side of Silat)

May 25 - Session is tentatively rescheduled to May 26 Sunday at 3PM

I will be away attending the International Silat Buka Lingkaran camp in Houston Texas from April 26-29.) If you are interested in joining me, please let me know. The camp is for all levels.

Arthur was interviewed by IU Student TV on the topic of self-defence. Check out the blog on a summary on what I think self-defense is about. I gather viewpoints from many established authors, thinkers to compile this. 


Arthur and BIS will conduct two group self-defense workshops, on March 5th and March 6th. BIS will also conduct another one in April.

Saturday Nov 4th, 2023! Come into the space for charitable donations, check us out, and learn concepts from Indonesian movement art for fitness, health, and self-defense.


There will also be an in-house showcase from a few regular practitioners. Check out what the group of regulars have been up to. 


Consider donating unexpired, unopened, non-homemade, and non-perishable food items. These will be collected and brought to Hoosier Hill Food Bank


This session is suitable for everyone. You will get differentiated instructions in a safe, friendly, and positive environment to learn new skills.

Welcome Camden H. to the group! We are excited to have you join us and be on your way to achieving tangible benefits from Silat practice. 

A few important announcements for September: 


Assistant Sasha will not be able to join us from September onwards as she handles new academic challenges. I'm sure she'll step on the mat when she's back in town. I believe we all appreciate her assistance during the past few months. Thank you all for giving her the opportunity to share her insights. 


With that, I need to reschedule the Saturday session on September 2, 2023 to Friday (9/1/23) evening at 6 PM. 


The Saturday session on September 9th, will have to be canceled because I will still be out of town. Unless the group would like to work on something, I'd consider appointing one of you to lead that session :). Please let me know and I'd be happy to provide some tips. and materials to review. I think it'll be fun as the group is very supportive of one another.  Give that some thought.

Welcome to Bill Harkins!

I lead two self-defense workshops at the workplace this month. The first one covered physical self-defense tactics and escapes when upright. The second one will emphasize again emphasize escapes when on the ground. 

February group class theme will continue to be the preparatory phase: focusing on Kucing (cat) + Buaya (crocodile) conditioning, footwork drills, multi-directional awareness, and sweeps applications.
